Our History

Stewart Construction has a long history within the industry beginning in 1960 when L.T. Stewart commenced building on his own as L.T. Stewart Builders and was then incorporated as a private company, Stewart Construction Ltd in late 1965. The directors were L.T. Stewart and his wife A.E. Stewart with two other shareholders. R.W. Bowen joined the company as a shareholder in 1975 and became Managing Director in 1984, along with G.R. Middlemass as Director on L.T. Stewarts' retirement from the company. On the retirement of R.W. Bowen in 2003, Middlemass took over as Managing Director along with the existing shareholders.

In 2015 Ross retired and left the business in the very capable hands of David Grant who has seen the business grow and expand into larger, more complex contracts throughout Dunedin, North Otago and Central Otago and Southland.

Stewart Construction has been Registered Master Builders since 1962 and Registered Master Joiners since 1970 and over these years have carried out many varied contracts mainly in the housing and light commercial area. The continuation of the company is strong with the introduction of younger shareholders and by monitoring the training of apprentices and bringing through and training of Foremen, the future is looking brighter than ever.
